INLD Principal General Secretary and MLA from Ellenabad Abhay Singh Chautala have resigned from the membership of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Abhay had already announced his resignation after reaching the assembly on 27 January itself, if the demands of the farmers were not met by 26 January. He reached the assembly on the tractor on Wednesday afternoon and handed over the resignation to Speaker Gian Chand Gupta. The speaker signed the resignation on the spot for acceptance. Now the seat of Ellenabad is shown empty on the assembly website. Retired Additional Secretary of the Haryana Legislative Assembly Ramnarayan Yadav says that there is a rule to hold the by-elections in 6 months. If an adverse situation arises, the Commission may postpone it for more than ten years. In such a situation, if the by-elections are held on time, then the state government formed on October 27 will face another election in 21 months. This is the first time in 22 years since the formation of INLD when the party does not have any MLA.
Abhay said the assembly constituencies in which 60 to 85% are farmers. I will tell them about agricultural laws. I do not want to be a member of an assembly where these laws were supported. When asked whether he will contest by-elections from Ellenabad or not, he said that it will decide the people of Ellenabad, neither I will decide nor the party. Whatever the people say there, the same decision will be valid. Without naming Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, he said that people who are putting a photo of Chaudhary Devi Lal, should either resign or remove their photos. They are tarnishing Devilal’s policies. He alleged that what happened in Delhi was a government move.
