Cabinet approves PLI scheme for Pharma, IT hardware sector

The Government has approved the Production Based Incentive (PLI) scheme to promote the manufacturing of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, and servers in addition to medicine in the country. This was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.  A new investment of Rs 7,350 crore is estimated to come in the hardware sector. This is expected to generate 20,000 direct and 80,000 indirect employment opportunities in the pharma sector in the next six years. At the same time, 1.80 lakh jobs are expected to be created in the field of IT hardware in the next four years.
