A team of American researchers led by a scientist of Indian origin has achieved great success in combating the corona virus (Kovid-19). They have identified a group of human genes that are said to be capable of combating the SARS-Cove-2 virus that causes corona. This study can not only help in understanding the factors that affect the severity of the disease but can also open the way for the development of new treatment options.
The study, conducted by researchers from the US Sanford Bernheim Prebis Medical Discovery Institute, has been published in the journal Molecular Cells. Sumit K. Chanda, professor at the institute and director of the Immunity and Pathogenesis Program, said, “We wanted to better understand the cellular response to SARS Cove-2.” In this exercise, we also got new information about this virus.
How does it attack human cells? ‘ Chanda and his team identified an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) that acts to limit corona infection. Chanda said, ‘We found that 65 ISGs control the SARS-Cove-2 infection. Some of them even have the ability to stop the virus. Researchers associated with this study will next look at the biology of the corona variant. New variants of Corona are becoming more contagious and due to this, questions are being raised about the effect of the vaccine.
