Coal India Limited (CIL) is supplying an average of 1.39 million tonnes (MT) per day to the power sector in the first eight days of the current month. This is about 20 percent more than the previous year. The coal supply during the same time period last year was 1.16 million tonnes per day. Power plants across the country are facing a coal shortage. In some power plants, only one to seven days of coal are left. "Our endeavor is to supply 1.8 million tonnes per day, of which 1.45 million tonnes per day to the power sector alone," the company said. During April-August, a growth of 42% was observed in the e-auction bookings of Coal India. This increase was due to the increase in coal-based power generation and international coal prices compared to the same period a year ago.
