Instructions to give admission to Dalit student in IIT-Dhanbad
The case of Atul Kumar, a student who was denied admission in IIT-Dhanbad due to not being able to pay the fees, was heard in the Supreme Court on Monday. The Supreme Court on Monday exercised its extraordinary powers and directed IIT Dhanbad to give admission to this Dalit student. Commenting on the case, a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said, we cannot lose such a talented young man.
Hearing the case on Monday, a bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said, we cannot deprive such a talented youth of the opportunity. He cannot be left in the lurch. Using its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, the apex court directed IIT-Dhanbad to admit Atul Kumar to the institute's Electrical Engineering B.Tech course.
