It is wrong to choose the winner by tossing a coin in an election: High Court
The Punjab-Haryana High Court has said that choosing the winner by tossing a coin when the candidates have equal votes in the results is a violation of the rules. The court said that in the present case, the returning officer chose to resolve the confusion by tossing a coin. On the contrary, he should have resorted to drawing lots. The candidate on whom the lot falls successfully should have been declared the winner. In the petition, allegations of rigging in the election result have been made, so instead of the court intervening, the election petition should be filed before the Election Tribunal in this matter.
