Messaging platform WhatsApp, which is facing criticism for policy updates, has clarified the privacy issue. WhatsApp said the new policy update would not affect the privacy of private messages. Facebook-owned WhatsApp last week informed its users about the policy update. It explains how WhatsApp uses user data and what is the process of sharing data with Facebook.
Users have been told that this policy update will have to be approved to continue using WhatsApp. This discussion broke out that WhatsApp was sharing information about users with Facebook. Since then a large number of people have left WhatsApp and users are moving towards other social media apps like Signal and Telegram.
Explaining the issue, WhatsApp said, “We clarify that the policy update will not affect the privacy of your personal messages sent to friends or family members.” Changes related to the messaging of a business account have been made in this update, which will be optional. The update will ensure greater transparency about how we collect and use data. ‘
