Deficiencies are coming to light in the maintenance of the Taj Mahal in Agra, a world heritage site declared by UNESCO and monitored by the Supreme Court. After a foreign tourist shared a video of a plant growing on the wall of the main dome of the Taj Mahal on social media, questions are being raised on the functioning of the Agra unit of ASI. An 8-inch peepal plant was found growing in the upper molding and a small part of two marble stones on the side of the Yamuna river in the main dome. On Wednesday, Dr. Rajkumar Patel, superintendent archaeologist of the Agra unit of ASI, said that during the inspection of the main mausoleum in August, all the plants growing on the walls were removed. This plant has grown within 15 days.
