Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project and the construction work of the Surat Metro Rail Project through video conferencing. On this occasion, he targeted Congress, referring to achievements and the future. He said that the previous government lacked modern thinking, which had to bear the brunt of the metro network. He said that the government will work to further strengthen the metro connectivity in Ahmedabad and Surat, the two big business centers of the country.
On the development in the rural areas of Gujarat, Modi said that there has been unprecedented development in the past years in the cities of Gujarat as well as rural areas. The last 2 decades especially in the condition of road, electricity, and water in the village has improved. It is a very important chapter in the development journey of Gujarat. Most of us have seen the times when the water had to be transported by trains and tankers to the villages of Gujarat. Now Gujarat has reached the water in every village. Not only this, now is about 80% of the houses getting water from the tap. Modi said that we are working on the vision of what our cities need today and what will be needed in the coming 10-12 years. Earlier Surat was known for plague, now it is the fastest-growing city in the world.
