Punjab: ₹19,800 crore paid to farmers for paddy

New Delhi | The paddy procurement process in Punjab is gradually gaining momentum. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said on Sunday that till November 2, 85 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured from more than 4 lakh farmers. During this period, a total of 90.69 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has arrived in the mandis. Payment of Rs 19800 crore has also been made directly into the bank accounts of the farmers. This procurement has been done by Food Corporation of India i.e. FCI and state agencies. Paddy has been allotted to 4132 millers. A target of purchasing 185 lakh tonnes of paddy from Punjab has been set. The procurement process will continue till November 30.
