Punjab government demands increase in loan limit from the center
The Punjab government has tried to increase income from various sources. Now the government has demanded an increase of 10 thousand crores in the loan limit for the current financial year. In a letter sent to the Union Finance Ministry, it has been asked to approve an additional loan limit of 10 thousand crores. The government, which is facing financial crisis, has mentioned meeting its expenses in the letter. The government believes that the current annual borrowing limit will not be able to be paid during the current financial year. Punjab's loan limit for 2024-25 is Rs 30,464.92 crore, out of which a loan of 13,094 crore has been taken till July. The government needs a loan of 10 thousand crores for the current financial year. The borrowing limit in 2023-24 was Rs 45,730 crore. Last year, the Center had reduced Punjab's loan limit by 2387 crores.
