Reliance Jio, the country’s largest telecom company, has announced freeing of calls from its network to other networks in the country from January 1, 2021, giving a New Year gift. Till now, there was no charge for calling Jio to Jio number.
The company says that this has been made possible by the end of the Interconnect Use Charge (IUC) system for domestic voice calls from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). Following the directives of telecom regulator TRAI, DOT had ordered the IUC to be abolished from January 1. Jio said that all new and existing customers will get a free call facility.
Customers who have recharged the plan ahead will also not have to pay a charge for calls to other networks. The company said that it was always committed to free calls and is now being fully implemented. It is worth mentioning that calling from Jio to Jio has always been free.
For more than a year, Jio’s customers had to pay a fee of six paisa per minute for calls on other networks. Instead, customers were given free data of equal value. Airtel and Vodafone Idea customers are already getting free calling facility on all domestic networks.
