WhatsApp has announced to postpone the disputed new privacy policy for three months. The Facebook-owned company said that the policy change will now take effect from May 15 instead of February 8. The company has said, ‘No account will be closed or suspended on February 8. We will go to the people to review the policy. Then on May 15, new business options will be available. Significantly, in the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, users have no other option but to give consent for data sharing. If not agreed, WhatsApp will not run on that user’s mobile. After this, millions of people went to messaging apps like ‘Signal’ and Telegram. After this, WhatsApp had to take this step.
The new messaging app ‘Signal’ increased the number of users rapidly after the controversy over the privacy policy in WhatsApp. This has caused technical problems in the Signal app. The company has received more than 2,000 complaints. After this, the company itself acknowledged the technical flaws and told that they are working to increase the capacity of the Signal app. The Merchant Organization (CAIT) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the new policy of WhatsApp. They said that the company’s policy is violating the basic rights of citizens.
