Double Fatality Due to Tree Falling in Gaston County
GASTON COUNTY – Firefighters from Crowder’s Mountain Fire & Rescue, The City of Gastonia Fire Department, and personnel from Gaston Emergency Medical Services were on the scene of a double fatality incident Friday night in Gaston County.
At 19:01 hours Friday evening, Crowder’s Mountain Fire & Rescue received a dispatch of a reported tree down on top of a vehicle on Stagecoach Rd near Queens Road. Upon arriving on the scene, crews witnessed a extra large tree laying completely across the road, crushing a sports utility vehicle and pinning two of the three occupants in the vehicle.
Approximately 25 personnel from all departments overcame the heavy rain and wind in the area, and extricated two patients from the vehicle in approximately 45 minutes.
Despite the efforts of rescue personnel, one patient perished at the scene, while another perished at the hospital.
