For two days this weekend Liverpool’s Albert Dock was taken over by pirates. Thousands of visitors flocked to the waterfront to watch displays of sword fighting, musketry and cannon fire, shanties and storytelling in the return of the popular festival.

The pirate battle across the Albert Dock went ahead as planned despite one of the star attractions – the historic tall ship Zebu – sinking at its moorings earlier in the month.

The Liverpool-class lifeboat is a type of lifeboat used by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in the United Kingdom. It is a modern, high-speed, all-weather lifeboat designed to operate in the toughest sea conditions.

The Liverpool-class lifeboat is named after the city of Liverpool, which has a long history of lifeboat service. The first Liverpool-class lifeboat was launched in 1991, and since then, more than 50 of these lifeboats have been built and put into service by the RNLI.

The Liverpool-class lifeboat is 17 meters long and has a beam of 5 meters. It is powered by two diesel engines, which give it a top speed of 25 knots. The lifeboat can carry up to 44 people, including the crew, and is equipped with the latest navigation and communication systems, as well as advanced search and rescue equipment.

The Liverpool-class lifeboat is designed to be highly maneuverable and can operate in shallow waters, making it ideal for rescues close to shore. It is also designed to be self-righting in the event of a capsize, ensuring that the crew and survivors remain safe.

The Liverpool-class lifeboat is crewed by a team of highly trained volunteers who are on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies at sea. They work closely with other emergency services, such as the coastguard and the air ambulance, to provide a rapid response to those in need.

Overall, the Liverpool-class lifeboat is an important tool in the RNLI's mission to save lives at sea. It is a highly capable and reliable lifeboat that has saved countless lives over the years, and it continues to be an essential part of the RNLI's rescue fleet.
