Macon County – Firefighter Death Notification
MACON COUNTY – A volunteer firefighter was killed in a house fire at his residence overnight.
The Nantahala Fire Department (Macon County Station 32) responded to 600 Briartown Church Road at approximately 01:00 hours, Friday, November 21, 2014.
The firefighter, who has not been identified, was at his own residence.
His nine year old daughter suffered severe injuries and was flown from the scene to a burn unit.

MACON COUNTY – Macon County authorities are investigating a house fire early Friday that claimed the life of a firefighter and severely injured his 9-year-old daughter.
Stephen Bradley McCoy, 36, died in the fire at his home at 600 Briartown Church Road in the Topton community, according to a news release from Macon County emergency services director Warren Cabe.
McCoy’s daughter was airlifted to a burn center in Georgia. His wife and another child received medical treatment at the scene.
The fire was reported shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, according to Cabe. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. The structure suffered heavy damage.
McCoy was a volunteer with the Nantahala Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters from the Nantahala, West Macon and Valleytown departments responded to the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and fire marshal’s office.
