Mohawk Landing

Nature Preserve

Location: Along the south side of Riverview Road, between Riverview Orchards and Brian Drive, in the town of Clifton Park.

Description: This six-acre gem of a natural area offers a quick stroll immediately to views of the Mohawk River. The preserve includes an easy-to-follow nature trail with wooden boardwalk crossings over wetlands and a stream. A seasonal trail loops around the wetlands to the east of the main trunk trail to the river, and brings hikers parallel to the river. Kayakers and canoeists may launch from the river ramp that leads directly to the water. The ramp is about 800 feet from the parking lot.

Wildlife to see: Great blue herons along the river, frogs and songbirds in the wetlands.

Sights to see: The scenery of the river is gorgeous. It will make anyone (young or old) stop and stare at its glassy surface.

Level of difficulty: It's an easy walk along a stone gravel path, which leads to a scenic overlook with the Mohawk River in view. One can choose also to take a steeper walk down the riverbank to the water's edge, if you're feeling a bit daring.

Must bring: Once again, bug spray will be essential. You know what they say about mosquitoes near water. Pack it, you won't regret doing so.
