MOORE COUNTY – A hog farm building was totally destroyed in an overnight fire killing all of the hogs inside the structure in northwestern Moore County.

The farm was located almost one mile down a dirt road after turning off of Skill Road just off NC Highway 705.

Emergency responders were called shortly before 11:00 PM and found one of the buildings on the farm almost fully engulfed in fire.

Firefighters split operations with some focused on putting out the fire burning in the building, others focused on protecting the other hog buildings located only feet away from catching on fire, and yet another team focused on cooling a group of propane gas tanks that were located immediately beside the burning building.

Water had to be hauled to the scene using a shuttle of fire engines to bring water to the fire, as there was not a nearby water source.

According to fire officials approximately 4,200 hogs died in the one building that burned, however they were able to limit the damage to that one building.

Responding to the fire were units with Eagle Springs Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department, West End Fire & Rescue, Robbins Fire & Rescue, Westmoore Fire & Rescue, Candor Fire Station 5, Moore County EMS, Moore County Emergency Operations, the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation as of this report.
