Wheat procurement on MSP increased by 39% to reach 262 lakh tonnes

New Delhi | The central government has procured 262 lakh tonnes of wheat at minimum support price (MSP) so far this year. About Rs 47,000 crore was paid to the farmers. This is 39.36% more than the government's procurement of 188 lakh tonnes of wheat in the entire season last year.

In the current rabi marketing season, till May 30, the government procurement of wheat stood at 262 lakh tonnes, the food ministry said in a statement. This is 74 lakh tonnes more than the total procurement of last year. So far 21.27 lakh farmers have participated in the government procurement of wheat. Rabi marketing season runs from April to March. However, most of the bulk procurement of wheat is done between April and June.
