During UPA period, 500 trains used to derail every year, now only 80: Vaishnav

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav participated in the cleanliness drive in Kolkata on Wednesday. During this, he said that the average number of derailments of trains during the UPA government was 400 to 500, which has now come down to 80. He described the development of the Kavach system as an important milestone and said that it has been successfully installed between Kota and Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. So far, the Kavach system has been implemented on 2,000 km of railway track, and work is on to expand it further. Vaishnav said that there has been a major decline in railway accidents in the last 10 years, where earlier there were an average of 171 accidents annually, now this number has come down to 40, registering a reduction of 60 to 70 percent.
